I am honored, humbled, and excited to announce that I received the Humanitarian Service Award on Thursday 24 October 2019 at the 24th Humanitarian Service Awards Ceremony held at Islamabad Hotel, Islamabad. The event was organized by NHSD, Network for Human and Social Development, who recognized my efforts and services for humanity as well as the services offered by my organization, SMSPP (Society for Multiple Sclerosis Patients in Pakistan), for the welfare of MS patients in Pakistan.
The Society for Multiple Sclerosis Patients in Pakistan has worked hard during these nine years since its registration to create unwavering support for MS Patients. The organization has aimed to provide a platform where MS patients can openly discuss their disease and problems linked with it.
The Society has an active Facebook page, a YouTube Channel, an Instagram account, and other social media profiles. We also have an active MS Support Pakistan Group on Facebook which can be joined by MS patients and their caregivers to discuss any concerns and issues related to their disease.
The event was held at Islamabad Hotel on Thursday, 24 October 2019. The society president, Ms. Afroz Syed, received the Humanitarian Service Award from Deputy Speaker Assembly, Qasim Khan Suri, at the International Conference and Expo.
Miss Syed addressed the attendees and showed her gratitude by thanking all the sponsors and her team. She spoke about multiple sclerosis and how it is rapidly spreading in Pakistan, but people are highly unaware of the disease. Watch the video below to view a clip of her opening speech at the International Expo.
The president also talked about her personal experiences and story as an MS patient and how it inspired her to start a non-profit that would act as a support group for Multiple Sclerosis patients. She shared her future ambition for the society that she intends to make its first MS Treatment Centre in Pakistan.
Ms. Afroz Syed represented the Society for Multiple Sclerosis Patients in Pakistan at the expo and created awareness about the disease. Society stall was also set up at the event to distribute MS related awareness material to participants and attendees of the Expo. She conveyed her message by sharing awareness brochures and pamphlets and talked with different people at the exhibition. The purpose was to gain credibility and donors for the society to provide more facilities to MS patients.
