What is Multiple Sclerosis?
Multiple Sclerosis (MS) is a long-term chronic illness that has a significant effect on the brain, spinal cord, and optic nerves. In the case of MS, the body’s own immune system destroys the protective layer of nerve cells of the Central Nervous System, called the Myelin Sheath. This process is known as demyelination. The weakened nerve cells cannot transfer signals effectively from the brain to the body.
MS is not uncommon in Pakistan. Studies have shown that the rate of MS progression in Pakistan is faster than in typical Western countries. However, awareness regarding the disease is lacking. The Society for Multiple Sclerosis Patients in Pakistan has been working on one aim, which is to provide a platform to the patients of this disease. This meetup will be a place where patients can come and discuss their condition, treatment, and treatment plans with the Society and other patients. We hope to see you at the event!
